Free Meals to all students for 2021-2022 school year

Plano ISD will offer free meals to all students to ensure adequate nutrition amidst the Covid-19 pandemic according to the Manual for Return to School 2021-2022. Stated therein,

“In accordance with the United States Department of Agriculture, Plano ISD Food and Nutritional Services will offer all students access to free breakfast and lunch every school day during the 2021-2022 academic year, regardless of household income. A la carte items will be available for purchase. Menu information can be found on the Food and Nutritional Services (FANS) website.

No application or eligibility determination process is required for a student to receive free meals this school year. Income eligibility requirements will likely resume in the 2022-2023 school year.

Notably, Plano ISD will still conduct surveys and distribute forms as noted by a Star Local Media article from August 4. It states,

“Since the district is still required to collect and report socioeconomic information to the Texas Education Agency for the purposes of annual state accountability ratings, as well as federal reporting and funding, Plano ISD is collecting an alternative Socioeconomic Information Form from all families via Parent Portal for the 2021-22 school year.”

Plano ISD together with its partners and sponsors have gone to great lengths to provide students and families a breather. Needless to say, they will assure that no student will be overlooked in terms of academics or nutrition this school year despite the alarming condition brought about by the pandemic.
