Plano Balloon Festival Canceled Again

Due to the danger and risk brought by the Covid-19 Delta Variant, the Plano Balloon Festival has been canceled once again as announced by the Plano Balloon Festival, Inc. according to a Local Profile article from August 17. In it they say,

“The much-anticipated HEB | Central Market Plano Balloon Festival and Run — which was scheduled for September 17-19, 2021 — announced today that the 2021 festival has been canceled due to concerns raised by the Delta variant of COVID-19.”

However, this was already the third cancellation of the Plano Balloon Festival as reported by a Community Impact News article from August 17,

“For the second year in a row, the annual H-E-B Central Market Plano Balloon Festival has been canceled due to concerns related to COVID-19

The festival, which was canceled last year due to the pandemic, was also called off in 2018 because of flooding concerns.”

In the Plano Balloon Fest official blog, the organizers provided an explanation as to why they arrived at the difficult decision. They said,

“With the continued increase in COVID cases, specifically the Delta Variant, the Festival board, and staff has considered the health and safety of our Festival pilots, attendees, volunteers, sponsors, and vendors our top priority. In making this difficult decision we are mindful of the extremely large number of families that attend the event, the majority of which have children under 12 years of age.”

While it is rather unfortunate that the much-awaited festival was canceled, we will still have a chance to attend 2022’s balloon festival in the balloon capital of Texas. Let us join together in patiently waiting for Covid-19 to pass and pray for the safety of all people.
