Plano Shoe Drive Gaining Momentum

Students from seven schools in and around the Plano area may be able to get good quality shoes thanks to the help of one Plan coach and his wife according to an NBC DFW article from May 27th. In it they say:

“Some students at seven schools in the Plano, Richardson, and Allen independent school districts are walking a little taller with the help of some new shoes.

‘I was noticing a lack of quality shoes in the gym,’ Tanner Craven said.

Craven coaches varsity football at Lake Highlands. His wife, Courtney Craven, is a physical education teacher in the Plano ISD. Together they started a local Soles for Souls charity to collect athletic shoe donations for students in need.”

The couple has amassed an impressive amount of shoes according to a Dallas Morning News article from June 2. In it they say:

“The couple’s church, City Point, helped them collect 80 pairs of athletic shoes in December, according to the report. Their spring shoe drive brought in another 275 shoes.

Tucked inside each box of shoes is a prayer card intended to encourage the students. The nonprofit plans to bring more sneakers to students who need them.

More information is available on the Soles for Souls website and its Facebook page.”

Soles for Souls doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon.
