After a heart wrenching hiatus of the all time favorite Mexican Pizza from Taco Bell, it is finally coming back and Texas is one of the few lucky ones welcoming its return according to a Dallas Morning News article from April 18 which reports,
“One of Taco Bell’s most beloved menu items, the Mexican Pizza, will return to participating Taco Bell locations — including those in Texas — on May 19, 2022.
The Mexican Pizza has been on the menu since 1985. It was removed mid-pandemic, when Taco Bell said at the time that it would help their sustainability goals because the Mexican Pizza accounted for 7 million pounds of paper per year, according to TODAY. Taco Bell didn’t explain how it would save in packaging this time around, but a press release says it has a new sauce packet recycling program.
From May 19-May 26, 2022, DoorDash will deliver Mexican Pizzas exclusively before other delivery companies add it on May 27, 2022. On DoorDash, a $2 off coupon is available for those who order at least $12 of food; the promo code is MEXPIZZA.”
Despite its recipe and ingredients being highly mysterious, the Mexican Pizza’s recipe was disclosed by Taco Bell themselves according to a Popsugar article from April 26 which says,
“According to the Taco Bell menu, the Mexican Pizza consists of six basic components: pizza shells, pizza sauce, refried beans, seasoned beef, a three-cheese blend, and tomatoes. Most of these are pretty self-explanatory, and a glance at the ingredients list will tell you that the three-cheese blend consists of mozzarella, cheddar, and Monterey Jack. Additionally, the seasoned beef can be replicated with a taco-seasoning packet, and the refried beans and tomatoes are, well, exactly what you’d expect.”
The Mexican Pizza’s return was made possible through Doja Cat’s efforts when she released a Tiktok video regarding the same pizza that everyone apparently has been missing all these years.
